unreliable Scantronic 9488+ |

|
[Sent first to alt.security.alarms then found this group]
It is no more than 4 years old and half of the buttons are already
unreliable or do not work at all. Most annoyingly one of those that do not
work now at all is the Enter button so I cannot even change the code to use
buttons still working. I am therefore now looking for a replacement panel
that would have similar features (see below) and have a reliable keypad. I
am looking for "good value for money" panel, not the most expensive on
earth, but reliable. Any suggestions?
The panel should include as a minimum these functions a facilities:
a] 5 zones including PA buttons
b] capability for 2 entry zones in addition to a]
c] minimum of 2 part set ( this is what was missing on 9448+)
d] zone omit, one or more zones
a] chime for 1 or more zones, user selectable (was not on 9448+)
f ] a connection for a tel.dialler
g] provision for a remote keypad
Current system is a wired system and I may wish to use the opportunity to
extend this to a detached garage. If such a garage extension ( a single zone
and remote keypad) could be interfaced wirelessly to this new panel without
being far more expensive than wired extension it would be an advantage.
Thanks
Roman

Easily repaired
If you remove the PCB from inside the door you can get to the back of the
keys.
Clean the Pcb where the keys touch with tissue & switchclean, clean the rear
of the keypad with the same (make sure that the black dots are no longer
shiny). re-assemble & you should get a few more years from the Panel. BTW
try not to press too hard on the keypad when using it as this shortens the
intervals between needing cleaning.
First replied to alt.security then saw you had posted here too.

Hi Nige,
Thanks, I did pick up your post in alt.security. (I made a note at the
beginning of my post here about my posting there as I do not like putting
people into trouble answering twice.) My worry now is that I open the box
and fail to stop tamper alarm because one of the code buttons is already
quite difficult to activate. And I cannot change the code because Enter
button does not work at all. Is there a way to stop the tamper alarm
blasting for 20 minutes even if I do not manage to enter the user code
successfully? I have the full manual and an engineering access, although I
have never used it with this panel to date.
I presume switchclean is a proprietary stuff for switch cleaning. WD 40
would not do?

Snip> I have the full manual and an engineering access,
If you have this, you should be able to put it into engineering mode and
prevent the tamper activating.
Hopefully you wont need any of the dirty buttons.
Unfortunately, if this doesn't help, you may need to get the installer back.

If you cannot get into engineers mode.
If the panel is unset when opened you will probably only get an internal
alarm, if this is annoying then disconnect internal sounder temporarily
whilst cleaning keys out.
