mabuhai LEDS are sources of light or emitters. you need i believe a photocels that detect light. for the color detetection you may use an LED [color] as a source for detection . i have never try it so i guess i am guessing so far. check back some other menber of the forum might help you with your problem.

color is defined as RGB RED BLUE GREEN basicaly magenta and there is black no color. by experimenting with leds and photo cells you could detect the color spectrum actualy most of motion detectors now days are photocells adjusted to detect light veriations.give it a try

“Color of paper” Last time I used this sensor: http://www.taosinc.com/images/product/document/TCS230-E24.pdf
If you want a color sensor that is USB and serial, I may have some loft over blank PCBs from an old project. Use white LEDs to light the paper and the TCS230 to read back the RGB color, then if you need to know the color temperature there are some formulas to get there from RGB. ron@gradllc.com
