I want to make an AA or AAA battery charger for palm having 5.2v operating voltage. I am new to electronics. I am wondering if it is possible just to put together 4 AA batteries NIMH (1.2 volts each) in serial so that their voltage add up to 4.8 v and just plug it into the plug for the charger.

Wander no more you may put as many as you like battery even of differential potential like 9v in series to charge them. However the voltage has to be higher then the total V and the current must be as manufactures specify.Never put them is parallel for charging or using not unless there is an resistance in series with each.
