Ultra Noob : Running AC equipment on DC ? |
|
|
Hi,
I've just bought some guitar effects equipment from the US and need to substitute the original 120VAC => 9VAC adapter with a 240VAC version. (I'm in Australia)
I need 2A.
I got hold of a 240VAC=>120VAC adapter to use initially (i.e piggy-backed the original 120VAC=>9VAC adapter on it).
This was both ugly, and noisy (quiet hum)
It also got quite hot.
Since then I've got a 240VAC => 9V DC adapter (2A) and have only just realised the original 9V adapter was actually AC.
Both 9V adapters have only 2 terminals.
I made sure I had +ve polarity on the new DC adapter, and took a deep breath.
It seems the 9VDC adapter works fine.
Is there a problem running AC gear on DC ??
If someone has the time, I would greatly appreciate if you could let me know if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong or if I'm unknowingly doing damage to my gear.
Thanks heaps.
