TV turns itself OFF and back ON |
|
|
I have an 8-year old Panasonic TV that I repaired recently thanks to
nice people in the group. thanks again!
Now after about 2 months or so the TV started to turn itself OFF and
back ON. It did this maybe once a day, then twice, now this evening did
4 or 5 times.
It stays OFF for about 2 minutes, but I didn't check to see if it is 2
minutes even. I tried to reset it (unplugged everything for a day). I
did not set the clock, and I turn the timer off. I don't know what else
to do. I noticed that when it comes back ON it displays the menu on the
screen (setup, timer, picture, etc). Also while it is OFF you cannot
turn it back ON. I tried both the remote and the switch in the front,
no go. It's just dead, but I think I hear some noise inside, almost
like the TV would be ON without picture.
I don;t have the sound hooked up, I use it as a monitor, and the sound
goes to the stere system. I should probably connect the audio straight
from VCR to TV and see if the audio circuitry is also OFF or ON during
this time.
Any other ideas? seems to be a "digital" effect, I don't think there is
something that overheats or another "analog" defect. When it comes back
ON it is 100% functional, picture is perfect.
Thanks again.

Did somebody wash the screen and drip cleaner into the power button?
Might also be worth checking to make sure it isn't the remote control
malfunctioning, take the batteries out and see if the problem persists. |

I can't say I am familiar with this specific set, but I had the exact
same problem with a Sanyo. When the set shuts off, apply freeze spray
to the on/off relay in the power supply. If the set comes on, this is
the problem. The relay would open when it warmed up, then close when it
cooled off. I replace this one about 4 months ago, and the set is still
working fine. Good luck.

sounds like the micro may be confused, or there is a broken trace on
the pcb near the clock/data bus lines. maybe the crystal is poorly
soldered??

| Did you ever get this resolved? I have a 32" Panasonic (model CT-32G31U) with exactly the same problem. |

| Some TV when they detect a condition as bad will disconnect the TV by means of a relay and will remain there until that condition goes away. some lite a LED telling you a fail safe condition exists and it is basicaly latch up in that condition POWER SURGE,IN-RUSH current heat even operating frequency of operation from the VCO. Sometimes it may even cycle trough ON-OFF continiuosly |
