Problem with using IGBTs - insulated gate bipolar transistor |
|

Hello people,
i face a problem in the design of the circuit to dim high pressure sodium vapour lamp with the use of IGBTs using phase control system
The background of the project is basically using the method of phase control be it forward, reverse or forward-reverse phase control methods to to dim inductive loads. The inductive load would be the high pressure sodium vapour lamp.
I've tried using forward-reverse phase control method but it resulted in high voltage spike when i try to force the electronic device to be switched off. Adding the snubber reduced the voltage soike but caused current spike. The questions im pondering and would like to ask is
1.) is there a circuit / external circuit that i can built to reduce the current spike
2.) Can the concept of shunt capacitance be used? If yes? where do i include the shunt capacitance part?
3.) Does putting a capacitor bank in the circuit help in the results?
Lastly, we have also tried using forward phase control system, tat is only the front part of the waveform tat was being chopped, leaving the back to go to 0 by itself without forcing it. In this method, we have acheived the power factor of about 0.8, im wondering how to improve the power factor further.
Your kind help in replying really matters and mean alot to me because my partner and i are already at our wits end in thinking of the problem.
Thank you!! =) [/img]
