I want to build a circuit, that automatically dials my mobile number through an analog phone line and sends an sms message.
The circuit should have some digital inputs that react on signals coming from other circuitry in my lab and should inform me via sms message, when something has changed (finished, went wrong etc.).

But I have a big problem: Absolutely no idea what to do to send an sms via an analog line. Do you have to dial the number first? And then? Which data format etc.? Who is a telecom specialist???

I think about building up sth. like a modem circuit, maybe with a transformer and constant current source operation. Then I want to use a microcontroller that does the hard work. But I cannot, as long as I don't know which data to send.

Thanks a lot!

Steffen
