Hi, I drive a 1995 Ford Probe, 6 cyl. 24 valve. I have only owned it since the beginning of July 2006. I installed a subwoofer and amplifier into it running the power cable from my battery and all that other good stuff involved with it. Since I installed the "stereo system" to my car my voltage meter in my dash board has been running very high, which is weird to me and every one else that has tried to help me troubleshoot the problem. Normally adding that to a car tends to drain the charging system causing it work more to keep a normal status. Now my voltage meter in my dash board says i am running very high volts. I had my battery and charging system checked out and it tested out find but i am still worried taht it could be my alternator and/or voltage regulator. Any help?

The battery of a car is meant only to start the car after it has started you may remove your battery and the car will run fine on your generator without the battery. If you read a higher voltage on the meter that cannot be true to charge a battery to a hi voltage it takes time and a good source of power and this is not the case i sugest to you that only your meter say higher voltage measure the battery and measure the meter they should be the same

I though about it some more You say meter i say gauge and it probably monitors generator current not voltage output, in that case the amps output will be higher charging the battery power up yours gadgets . I n other words nothing is wrong NOW but if you insist on adding more and more stuff the generator will eventualy fail., and frankly it is a waste of power.
