Hello,

I,m trying to operate a 24 volt ac (3amps) sprinkler valve with a 120v(500w max) residential type motion sensor. A doorbell type transformer was used to convert voltage and it actually worked for a few cycles. The motion sensor while still working is now not putting out enough voltage to operate the system. Is there a better way to do this? What about a relay?

Thanks

A doorbell it may have 24 v but not the current required for operating a solenoid 24 v 4 amps. friend you need power not voltage get the proper transformer and you will solve your dilemma. a relay will add more load to your setup. it good for isolation and why a motion detector to operate your valve i belive your story is missing something or i don't understand

Thank you for your reply. The 24 vac valve operated off the motion detector activates a pulse sprinkler used to scare deer who have been feasting on my shrubs.

I have no idea where you live. Sure radio shack will have that but my choise [CHEAPER] is harbor freight tools. stuff made in china it is cheap $20.00 and battery operated drives a chime of sort so you can hear an approach got to modefy it to provide it to make ultrasonic. there are also bugs repellent for gophers mouse and bugs would they work on deers that i don't know. water is a natural enviroment for deers like rain sudden noise will scare then and they can hear i know I hunted deers they hear damn good believe me. well at least mule deer.

Or you could just use some deodorant soap. That keeps deer away. I know it's not as technical but it works well.
