This VCR was working beautifully untill the problem showd up. At first the front diplay would just dim when you palyed a tape. but then it just quit. Believe it's a power issue since it won't even turn on any more. The weird thing is if you leave it plugged in for a wile the only motor in in begins to inch forword in small bursts like it's try ing to go but not getting the power it needs. This all happend in the cource of a day. So were do I start? I do have some experiance repairing electronics, however step by step instructionsare appriciated. Thanx for all help....

| a VCR WELL i don't have them any more i changed them to DVD better quality and less bulk to store movie and what not. but if i was the owner of your VCR the way you descibe the simptons i would guess the power supply has some caps that are probably getting hot and leaking causing probably some bad ripple on the outputs. can you fix it sure maybe is it worth fixing it i ruther think not. my first VCR put me back $500 but now i can buy a DVD recorder for $150 or less. goodwill industry has all kind of VCR at a cost of $10 or more. take care. |

I know I can pick one up for cheap, but this is a really high end one and since Have lots of taped, it's worth fixing (IN MY MIND AT LEAST) So bad caps in the power suppy, ok how do I find them, and how do I test them... I've replaced capps in televistions before but only because I new that it was a common defect, not because I actuially new them to be bad....... thanx

| believe it or not my old VCR was bought for $934 AND I GOT RID OF IT why watch a VCR noise when you can watch a DVD fidelity. well open it up and look for bulging caps usualy in the power supply usualy big and if you gey a VOM check voltages good luck. |

| thanx, I assume the voltages comeing out of the capaciters should be equal to the voltage in the wall outles? |

| Heres a weird development, it suddenky started working again! go figure, so it couldn't have been a capaciter could it? because that wouldn't b intermitant. Am I right in that |
