Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I hope that it will be a good start to me.

I like to do all kinds of electronic projects, and my New Year resolution is to build a wireless video system. Yes, I know I can buy an off the shelf wireless camera transmitter with receiver for $45 in Halted. But it is the fun and learning that drive me to building it. My goal is to add a wirelss camera to a R/C car (or tank).

Right now I have a small camera with composite video output. So I need to design a video transmitter and receiver. The receiver output will go to the TV. I've seen projects from google search, but they are mainly simple transistors based design at low frequency. What I want to do is to use fm as modulation and transmit and recieve it in the ISM band of 2.4ghz.

So here are the questions:
1. Is it legal to transmit it at 2.4ghz without license since it is ISM if I don't exceed tranmit limit (I think it is 1W but I have to double check)? I have seen a lot of wireless video cameras in the internet that operate at 2.4Ghz with 4 channels (2413 2432 2451 2470 ) and fm modulated.

2. The fcc spec requires radio at ISM band to be spread spectrum or freq hopping. Does it mean that those wireless video cameras out there are also freq hopping at 4 channels?

3. Has anyone done any design at the ISM band as a hobby? Can you share some ideas?

Thanks for any advices.
