I need some advice and some info on where I can find some parts. OK
got this TV free from my grandpa last summer after he upgraded to a 56
HD Sony I have just recently got around to messing with it due t
moving, so anyway I was wondering where I might be able to pick up
new screen for this thing. The current one is has tons of scratches i
it and its a little warped. And I also have a problem a little hard t
explain. When ever I use the TV to play a DVD or Video Game there is
Ora around the Character and text the color on said Ora depends on th
color its surrounding and the brighter the color the larger the Or
gets. I am trying to get at least 2 more years out of this TV giving m
time to save up for something better. My grandpa bought this TV new i
92. Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks i
advanced.

televisions generally should be adjusted and viewed in a darkish room,
as they can be a bit hard to see in a bright room.
Try setting the contrast full, then the brightness to a level where
black areas in the picture actually look black, and then back off the
contrast to around 80% or whatever looks best to you.

Ora? I believe you mean aura (luminous radiation), which surrounds bright
object. If the set is 13 years old, and belonged to your grampaw, its
probably never been serviced. Removing the screen, and washing 13 years of
dust, smoke, and whatever off the mirror and the top of the crts will
probably eliminate the aura, or halo.
As to a new screen, good luck. I suggest you save your money. This unit is
past its prime.

Untill he cleans 13 years of grime off the mirror and crts,
he can adjust all he wants, wont help.

Needs a complete mirror and lens cleaning AND all the coolant needs
replaced in the picture tubes after they are disassembled to clean the
growth of years of crud that is on the face of the tubes. Strongly
recommend you have someone do the job who has access to all the
training, parts, and experience to do the job properly. Typically
under a $250 total repair depending on how badly the adjustments have
been screwed up.

Send the measurements of the screen, I have a few kicking around.

It also may be ready for a coolant change.

old capacitors leak and becomes hot andleaks some more usualy by visual inspection you can find it. the best thing that you can do for electonics is never to shut off power expecialy in a humid invaroment when caps cool it just suck that cold humid air waiting outside. take care
