Greetings. I'm working on making something like a data logger that will record slight voltage changes to cassette for later review.

Basically I need to record slight temp changes over night, and then feed it into the sound card to use a spectrum analyzer and watch the dips and spikes of the temperature.

What I've done so far is using a 555 oscillator, I've put a thermistor in place so that the pitch of the tone changes as the temp does. I then hook that up to my recorder and review the results on screen. It works well, and serves the purpose.

The thing is... Obviously the screen is full of harmonics. I would like to feed in more sensors/oscillators and possibly be able to record additional locations every 2khz of the spectrum or so. That way I can review all the locations at once and identify temp drops/spikes.
I've tried using a low pass RC filter on the output of the 555, but its not attenuating as I'd like.

Is there an easier way of doing this? Am I making this much harder than it needs to be? I'll answer any questions, and would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to just amplfy the signal and record that. The amount of analog data well will be as long as the recording last and that is a lot. You can store digitaly by a DAC and dump it into storage. That is still a lot of data. Slow recording of that type is usualy done by a 24 hour motor running a chart recorder where you can actualy see the waves of temp. changes as recorded.
