Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and here's a short blurb about me. I went to a small school in Western Illinois and got an associates degree in Consumer Electronics Repair many years ago. Got a job in the social services shortly after school and then went into the Golf business.

I'm wanting to get back into electronics and I've recently repaired some easy stuff... radio, tv, and an old Traynor guitar amp all having minor problems. I'm wanting to do more, and possibly some ham stuff and I'm wanting opinions on what type of Scope to buy.

As I'm mostly interested in learning more audio (stereo, guitar) and rf circuits, what would you consider the minimum requirements for my first scope, 10 MHz, 20MHz or more? I think I would want, more than need, a dual trace just to be on the safe side, and what do you think about any of the PC based scopes on the market including kit scopes?

depending on where u go, scopes can be expensive and if u got the money try to get the best one you can find.

beging by considering your use of it audio most amps can only produce flat responses to 20kc most people cannot hear 15kc. but audio is a complex waveform a scope can only tell is there or is not there a signal.
oscilloscope were made for digital troubleshooting. an adio signal means nothing on a scope because is continiuosly varying amplitude and phase and frequency. it is totaly a waste of money. but if you realy want one tektronics is the best for your ## foryour application 10-20 mega is good enough. but you may buy cheaper my suggestion buy and old TEK as opposed to a new anything.
