OT: LG-VX6100 Cellular Phone |
|
|
My wife's Samsung Cell Phone died, so Verizon gave her a LG-VX6100
which has a camera.
They told her it was $2.99/month additional for the privilege of
E-mailing photos, so she said NO.
They told her that you couldn't get photos off the phone except by
E-mailing them, but I find that hard to believe, since I see
photo-editing software is available (as is a USB cable).
Anyone know about such things? (Me, I use a ten year old Motorola
flip phone, I don't need any fancy shit :)

Agree. My cheap Costco 2.1MPixel camera makes better picture than I have

No problem, my wife is not particularly impressed. She already has a
nice Sony camera, but she always forgets to take it with her.

I was told that the SMS facility was an afterthought in the standard, but
incredibly profitable. A few years ago, a Nokia engineer told me about
the craze in Finland for SMS "chain letters". The latest one at the time
was "If you don't text this to 5 more people within the next hour, your
mobile will change from a Nokia to an Ericsson". He wondered if their
marketing people had originated it....

We have two cell sites, one for NExtel and one for Stinkular, on top of
our bldg on campus. During the 10 min break between campus, those poor
cell sites must be overloaded, because as I walk down the mall, I'd
estimate more than half the students are blabbing on their cellphone. I
use mine when I need to, but these people are getting a "tennis elbow"
from holding the phone up to their ear. One young lady asked me if I
knew of a cell phone plan that would give her more than a thousand free
minutes a month, because she kept going over the max, and it was costing
her a lot of money. Geez, talk about a motormouth! I'm lucky if I go
over a hundred minutes a month. These kids are blabbing on there 24/7!

I've got 200 minutes/month and find that quite satisfactory. Just
about every high school student has one, (and quite a few younger ones
as well), and they are constantly yakking as they walk, stand around,
wait for the bus, have a smoke, etc.

Pig Bladder IS, uh, well, what can you say, ignorant is the only word
that comes to mind.
I have an ancient 75 minute plan with no roaming or LD charges that I
refuse to let them "upgrade" me from.
I never go over 75 minutes, my wife very rarely does.
Considering that I live in a desert I consider a cell phone a safety
item, just like a tire jack.
I've even taken to NOT forwarding my land line when I go to lunch...
east coast clients seem totally incapable of telling time ;-)

And what P's me O is they keep on sending me tempting 'free' text msgs
to enter a contest for some free drawing, and I keep sending back NO. I
already had a 'wrong number' text msg come on my phone, and I checked
the callerID and called the number back. I got a VM and left a msg to
_never_ text me again! I'm going to have to do as the news piece said
and call them up, and ask that a text msg block be put on my number.
Then I forgot the PW (hey I've changed cell providers so many times
lately it's hard to remember), and I called the number to get it sent
back to me. So I saw on my next bill that they charged me a dime to
send the PW text. >:-(

Good idea, that, Jim. I don't have, nor do I want, a "cell", and I
*never* answer my landline phone (ringer is OFF; volume on answer
machine ON) unless caller says something like hey Michael, it's me ...
pick up. This has shown - because very few messages get left - that
99+% of incoming calls are from people I don't know (and probably don't
want to know).
As for us east coast-ers seemingly being unable to tell time, that's a
myth. We can tell time; we just expect everyone else to be on eastern
time too. ;-) (Not unlike the typical American expectation that
*everyone* on this planet speak American english)
