I moved (rolled, not dropped or bumped) my VS-50703 to another room and now
I cannot get the channels to display on Cable-A. It worked perfectly
before the move. I can get the PIP to display the channels, but I cannot
get anything but static on the main screen. It used to be hooked up to an
AV Receiver and not it is just hooked up to a standard basic cable (Input
A) input with no cable box (really basic setup). I set all of the Home
Theater settings to NO or OFF per Mistsu Help Line and it still does not
come in. I can see DVD, PS/2 games, etc on the full screen but not
regular cable broadcasts. HELP!!!

Check all the obvious including cracked connections around the main tuner
assembly. Maybe the antennea switch or the tuner have failed.

Paul,

Sounds like you have 2 choices.

1) Have the main tuner replaced ( This is the cause of your problems)

2) Use a cable box or VCR for tuning. Hook either of these up to one of
your AV inputs.

Thank you for your reply.

Any idea ow much a new tuner would be? Tweeter Service quoted a $95
service call, plus $100 to $300 labor, plus the cost of the parts (tuner.

Looks reasonable to me. Have you ever tried to change one of these tuners?
They rarely fail, but when they do you have to remove the input board and
signal board, and the board is double sided.

No Not really I always charge my worth but if I translate
that amount in Canadian Dollars I really think its to high.
For a start $95.00 House call NO WAY.

Why? What would your shop charge. Do you know what market he is in? How
do you price your repairs?

I would not assume that the tuner is the problem without diagnosing the
problem myself. It could easily be a coolant leak on this set. If the
tuner is bad, no one carries these on the truck, so it is a two trip job.
I'd consider the $95 a little high, but Sears charges more than that here.

Not knowing the whole story, I'd say the range that they quoted is likely
quite realistic and reasonable in most markets. Our rate would be $50 per
trip, locally, and $120-360 labor, plus parts. That would be the range for
almost any RPTV not having diagnosed the set yet, and we are very
competitive in a market with relatively low cost of living. If it is indeed
the tuner, 2 trips = $100, labor of $120 + the parts. Any shop working for
less is likely not making a profit.

Well first Leonard I would go to the house and diagnos the fault
(At least get a handle on the fault instead of guessing)
that would involve my Service call of $59.95.+ Tax here 15%
From there the cost would be quoted to repair.

So, since you are willing to criticize another shops prices...how do you
price repairs? What is your range for a RPTV like this one? BTW, if you
are in Canada, how is it that you have serviced these sets? I thought Mits
was out of Canada before they were manufactured.
