Heads Up - Anyone using or considering the use of wireless part 15 devices in
their product line up should be aware of the following:

· The U.S. D.O.D. is currently in the process of rolling out a new
land-mobile-radio (LMR) system that operates from 380 - 400MHz.

· This LMR will eventually have nationwide coverage.

· Interference with garage door operators that use 390MHz has already
been a problem. Transmitter site radius of impact; around 25 miles.

· Resulting controversy has prompted meetings between industry
representatives and, D.O.D. and F.C.C. officials.

· D.O.D. to push for rule changes that would eliminate part 15 devices
and require licensing for all wireless devices.

· Likely solution will be that all intermittent low-power devices will
be required to operate in two or three specific bands.

· The reason for the rule changes is the citing of the fact by the
D.O.D. that they currently have plans to effectively fully utilize the part 15
frequency band 260 - 470 MHz. (many of these are long-term and several years
off)

· Right now the plan is for the rule making to begin ASAP and conclude
within a two year period. Unprecedented time table for the FCC or any
government agency.

Keep an eye on this website for further updates:

To be privy to all details you or your organization should look into joining
the coalition. I would recommend contacting the Door and Access Systems
Manufacturers Association for direction on that point - http://www.dasma.com/

More like :

OH SHIT, MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE CHOSEN A FREQUENCY BAND THAT COULD NOT BE
DEFEATED BY A HOME DEPOT UNIVERSAL DOOR REMOTE!!!

I would flog the guy that spec'd out the thing.

Hmmm, I honestly don't remember back that far ( I did see it in the
theater). I don't remember how they got in, but I dearly hope Al Quida,
et. al., get out the same way.
