I had one in my car for a while. It is evolving rapidly and has lot of
forum support. Here is a link of links. http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/
Costs about $150 bucks for the kit. It is based on MC68HC908GP32
All software and hardware is open source.

I have an older (92) dogde pickup that I plan to keep around for a
while. I recently replaced the ECU with a junkyard unit to get it
running again and have concerns about long term reliability. This may
be a good long term solution.
