I have a florescent kitchen light thats connected with the typical white, black and uninsulated copper ground wire and connected to a regular light swtich. I have a vacation timer i want to hook up to it, but you have to plug whatever you want to be timed into this vacation timer. Is it possible to cut the original wiring cable, and install a 3 pronged plug on the orignal cableso it will plug in and work?

three wires one copper is for safety. I have reservation about your timer survival rate it was designed for a resistance type of load A dimmer or a neon lite is not a passive load. And to answer you no you should do that if it faults insurance co. will give you nothing for cheating or modifeing the wireing. YOUR CALL?
