Since diodes are a one way valve and help with ac to dc. What is the point of a diode in a dc only circuit? Also, do both NPN and PNP raise current in a curcuit? Trying to figure out the differences between NPN and PNP and what their uses are. The basic books seem to tell you what they are but not how to use them properly.

DIODES They can be usued as clamps provide a .7 v bias and many more applications. Here is something you should know PNP POSITIVE NEGATIVE POSITIVE and NPN guess what just the oposite. meaning one conducts one way the other conducts the other way. now here is the kicker for you that is true only if not saturated, so if they are saturated both will conduct bothway. TO REALY UNDERSTAND these guys you must read electobics physic books first. the you will get the grasp of depletion regions electron flow and yes holes flows

Forgive my ignorance. So a diode drop the voltage to .7v. What's the point? Does the current stay the same? Besides dropping the voltage to .7v, what application does a diode have in a dc circuit.

Suppose on an DC input there are spikes of essessive incomming voltage spikes you could use a diode to clamp those spikes to the rails protecting other devises. can be used logicaly to provide a gate AND/OR in analog computers they can be used to provide function generators all are DC circuits using diodes to make decisions. clamping a coil colapsing field there are too many uses to mention. basicly dc by itself is useless unless something is changing either amplitude or direction. It may help you to understand diodes better if you study a simple circuit containing diodes .
