Installing electronics/Nav equipment on my boat. Electrical system is 12v/dc. One piece of equipment requires 24v power, so I'm installing a 12/24 step up converter to power that piece. How do I ground it? Is it ok/not ok to ground equipment running 24v to the main ground bus in the boat, which is 12v? That little voice in the back of my head says "don't do it". I remember reading somewhere that one must ground to like voltage grounding sources (or something like that). Thanks

all ground must meet somewhere and there is at the source 12v battery make sure that the ground goes to the inverter first not the load first.

The converter being used is not isolated. Instructions say "not to be used on 'floating' or 'positive' ground applications. Now I'm more confused.

floating means that the ground is not tied to a common point like earth gnd. not isolated means both leads are hot. and not to b tied to a positive groung means just that. do not tie the converter gnd to +12v. tie the low side of the converter to bat neg the hi side goes to +12v all your equipment then is tied to converter output and since this is boat and can biult up difference in potential allways tie all ground to provided earth gnd when fueling. by all means shut down all electrical don't need it when fueling
