I intend to build my own remote controlled switch(with a safe frequency so that other wavebands wouldn't activate it by mistake and effective within a 100 meter radius)and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I have seen this kind of remote sold at ebay but i believe it is more of a one way remote switch where the the actual on/off device is plugged into the outlet and the appliance is plugged into it in turn. The remote control is handheld and you just need to turn a button on or off. I am thinking of adopting this approach however I also need a way for this circuit to send a signal to the handheld remote to indicate if the appliance is indeed ON by visually seeing on the remote a lighted LED. Hence, if i press the off button on the remote, the LED turns off, indicating that the appliance is indeed off.

I am a relative novice in electronics and i would appreciate any assistance or advice regarding this matter. Thanks in advance to all those who would take the time to read this and offer me some help.

First of all there is not such a thing as safefty in frequency. you may institute a code into your frquency like for example garage door trnsmitters. they operate withing a cetain range in other word limited power output. A computer router at 2.4gigahz is not safe at all so the range is low level and keep it within your anbient away from external walls. yes you do nedd a rx-tx to work the led for monitor opertion can be simply a current sensing device that transmit a signal that current is indeed flowing. as far as biulding it goes I sugest you buy it it will cost more and troublsome for a novice. but it is a good learning curve. it is upto you. tak care.
