I have a Hardon Karmon HK 3240 receiver, and I am pretty sure the transformer is bad. I checked it out and I am getting 110V to the x-former, but nothing out of it. The part looks like it can be replaced fairly easily.
A friend gave me this unit, and since it looks like it is only worth about $150-$200 (when new) I am not willing to spend a lot of $ on it. Does anyone have any idea about how much a transformer might cost? Any input anyone can offer?

I am pretty sure that is not your trouble. If they blow open means the wires are burned and that will stink like hell. Does it have fuses glass tubular like thingy. The transformer replacent probably cost $50 $100 and then got to get the right replacement. if it has transformer means it is old allready.

Thanks for the advice, I checked all the fuses on the board with a multimeter, and I have continuity through all of them. I checked the terminals on the power switch and it opens and closes properly. I know what you mean about the x-former making an awful smell if it's blown. I checked for a smokey or burned smell and noticed none.
The power cord plugs into the board, and it is getting power. The next thing in line is the x-former. I'll see if I can trace it out some more, but I think I found my problem. Any idea where I can find the part?

try MOUSER electronics i ruther think that you will never find it. You could find a direct replacement if you know what to look for. That doesn't mean that there are not there somewhere some carage collecting dust. This is the age of throw away no more repairs cheaper new then repair. I don't even bother to repair my own nowdays.
