is it possible to fry a receiver if the coaxial cable is cut while the digital receiver is still on? and connected to the cable...

heres a better explanation. My dad was trying to split our sat signal to another receiver and cut the cable while it was still connected with the receiver on! Its not working properly now, do u think its fried and time to chuck it in the trash?

thanks for any info

cheers,

when he cut it he has probably shorted out the input that is not good but not to make malfunctioning afterward. and i don't know what [ not working properly means] there is a loss now on the cable because of the split and the lead-in wire should have been cut to a specific lenght depending on the incoming frequency. other then that it should operate fine.

There is an 18v supply to the LNB of the sat dish and if you cut the cable when the receiver is on you can short out that supply. If that supply to the LNB is dead, you won't get any channels but the receiver should still power up.

Thanks indel now i know what that is. I read and specificly it states that a split will not work on Lnb other measures must be satisfied before a split can be done satisfactorly. So there is the answer you cannot split an LNB AND EXPECT GOOD RESULTS. So now there is no fried reciver just the split will not work good.
