Simply put OVERDRIVE. It must come from chemistry whereby a saturated solution is a concentration of moleclules now change to electrons and you got it.

A MOSFET is realy depended on the input drive a totem pole is a good way to insure that you get the benefits from the input drive. The drive is not realy a massive current drive into a gate it is the voltage rise that makes faster. Diven by a TTL gate and 5v there are limitations on how much drain current can flow regarless of of the drain to source voltage.
