Hello
I have an non-working athlon xp cpu that reads 0.00 ohms vcc to vss on the multimeter display so according to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/RMA_Presentation_UK-S.pdf#search='rma%20presentation%20amd' is shorted. Are there any chances of removing the short within the cpu? Thanks.

I have never yet found a shorted component like a CPU like that so it is kind of interesting to me. I asume that the CPU is out of the socket in your hand. I also asume that you have tried to reverse polarity on the meter to verify a short. Do that after you have verified a short . And how did the power supply survived the short circuit. The power supply must have blown a fuse or something if that is not the case then something else is afoot. And finaly to your answer can you remove the short from inside the CPU sure with enough energy it can be done you will remove the short but the unit will not be functional after that. so why try it. Try to remove all surface mounted capacitors it could be that one of them is shorted if you are lucky. That can be done with ease. tie yourself to earth ground before you try to mess with it. Good luck.
