I have the following K-Map


0 0 1 0
+---+
1 |1 1| 0
0 |1 1| 1
+---+
0 1 0 0

I am curious to know why the center grouping is not needed.

If I read this correct, you would need to make four groups of two 1's, and
then all the four center 1's will be "used". When all 1's are used, you
won't need more groups.
