I got a digital timer and is it ok to drive mini transformer |

Conventional loud alarm clocks dont wake me.
So, I want to turn on a loud radio with it.
It is a small cassette boombox.
Or should i just stick to incandescent lights only ?
It says " dont turn on motors with it "
They didnt have mechnical timers, except "randomn" week long ones.
It would take 1 day at least, to find my old mechanical switch output
timer, buried in a box somewhere.

I would be suprised if it cant handle the current to feed the boombox. Go
for it.
Switching a motor is another thing !!

It should be fine, go ahead and use it.
Another option is to wire a latch circuit and relay to the speaker in a
clock radio and use the alarm to trigger something louder or a bright light.
I've seen overpriced "dawn simulators" that are nothing but a metal halide
lamp and ballast on a timer, you could pick up a 100W or so metal halide
flood on ebay and use that, the gradual warmup does gently wake you and it
gets bright enough to wake up a stubborn sleeper.

One issue may be the keep-alive current they use. Probably not a problem
with a cassette player but who knows?

The only thing that could go wrong is that the solid-state switch in the
timer couldn't turn off the transformer after it turned it on -- that's
usually the problem with motors. If that happens, you can probably deal
with it by having the switch turn on a 60 to 100 watt table lamp at the
same time as the radio. The resistive load from the lamp would swamp the
transformer's inductance -- which would be what caused the problem. Note
that you have to use an incandescent lamp, not any kind of fluorescent.
Or, you could turn on your coffee maker at the same time as the radio,
assuming the switch is rated for that much power.

Thats the way I have it - with 100 watt bulb and loud radio, and it works !
