Toshiba TV troubles |
|
|
I have a large Toshiba TV, about 12 years old. It is making an
annoying crackling sound with almost each station I put it on. Is this
a sign of my tv getting ready to go kaput? Any ideas are appreciated!

is the crackling from the audio/speakers or from the rear of the
cabinet? is the pic affected? how long does it last? you'll need to
give more info if you expect useful replies.
often there could be too much HV, can be caused by failing capacitors.

Hi Ben,
Yes the crackling is coming from the speakers, no the picture is not
affected. It lasts the entire time the TV is on. What do you think?

The model would allow someone to give specific advice, but this era set
probably used the sound module with the leaky caps. Very routine repair for
most shops familiar with Toshiba. About $100 in our shop if that is the
problem. If the color and focus are still good the CRT is probably OK and
the set merits an estimate by a good service shop.

Thanks Leonard! Do you know of any good places for TV repair in
Tacoma, Washington - that make house calls? |
