Cordless phone batteries are way overpriced, over 5 times the individual NiCd
batteries combined! Why is this so?

Probably due to the wide variety of packaging. Can't sell enough of a
specific type for economies of scale to kick in? Or more cynically, because
you have to trash your phone if you don't want to pony up whatever they're
asking for the batteries? Perhaps a little of both? |

No you don't have to trash your phone, just buy regular NiCads and use wires to
connect ...

Very true, but the average consumer has no idea how to solder or where
to get generic cells. |
