Just curious ... why isn't there a channel 0 or 1?

Just a guess:
When television was first being developed, most numbering systems weren't
zero-based. Numbering started with 1 until computer addressing and array
indexing became common. Most non-programmers still start numbering things
with 1.
As for not starting with channel 1, my mother always told me that it was
because every station would want to be number 1, and it wouldn't be fair to
the rest, so they started with 2, and went up to 13. Twelve channels, either
way. Evidently it wasn't unlucky to be channel 12. |

Channel 1 was there at the beginning but the FCC reassigned to other
service.

I understand that there *was* a channel 1 for a while, but it got
dropped to make room for radio services. |
