Can anyone of you guys on here tell the difference between mono and stereo
sound? I tested 6 of my friends and only 2 were able to definitively tell the
difference, so I was wondering how effective stereo or Dolby 5.1 is ... let me
know.

=======================

If the sample is 'mono', there wont be any difference. If the sample is
'binaural' there will be a subtle arrival time difference between the left and
right mics that will trigger certain psychoacoustic responses related to
direction and loudness. If the recording was done close mic-ed in a studio, the
time and phase diff info is missing, and the 'pan' between left and right is
just a volume difference, which might not register on the brain as a real
microsecond time/phase shift.
