I have a project in mind where I'd like to connect some LEDs, a switch
and other components to some male headers on a perf board.

I'd like to have a 2 or 3 socket female connector on one end of some
26ga wires with the other end stripped and soldered.

I'm only looking for 4 or 5 of these assemblies. I don't have, nor
want to buy a crimp tool to make just a few of these.

Does anyone have an online source for some of these pre-made?

I did find a source of 22ga wire assemblies at allelectronics.com, but
these are too stiff to fit in the small enclosure I have in mind. I'd
like something more flexible.

The last time I needed something like this, I used the wires from an
old computer case that connected the motherboard to the enclosure LEDs
and switches. They worked great.

For just a few you can solder the female terminals, crimp the
insulation clamps with a pair of long-nose pliers and shove them into
the housing. No big deal. Buy a few housing sizes and a bunch of
terminals and you can make up whatever sizes you want in the future.

IDC connectors and ribbon cables. You don't really need a special tool
(although a hand tool for this only runs about $20). A small vice works
well. Channel-lock style pliers can be used in a pinch; use strips of
chipboard (cardboard like in a cracker box) to protect the connector
from the pliers' teeth.

The spacing of the ribbon cable versus the connector means that the IDC
connectors generally have two rows and so take up a bit more space than
the single row, individually crimped connectors. Try Jameco, JDR, ...

Go to your local computer repair shop and ask them if you can dig
thru their junk pile. The items you want are in old AT chassis, like
you mentioned. They throw them out after the pile gets too big.
I have a box full from the old days, with most wires on these
about a foot or so long. If you can't find any, I will send you some.
