I need to install a wired alarm system on a large stable block. (Lots
of door contacts). Unfortunately I cannot rely on people arming it
every night. Are there any 'off the shelf' alarms that will
arm/disarm according to a time schedule (with manual override)?

Alternatively can anyone suggest a system that could be armed/disarmed
by a concealed time switch (such as a central heating programmer)?

I used to use Ademco that did do auto arm by a time schedule but don't know
if any UK alarms do this.
Rig up a timer and connect to keyswitch input. may need a manual keyswitch
as an over ride.

Scantronic, Menvier & Europlex manufacture panels that can either be
keyswitch armed/disarmed , Menvier & Europlex can automatically arm the
system via internal control panel timers.

There are a number of disadvantages to using auto-arming, especially if
there are a large number of contacts, Do you have to use contacts
throughout the stable block, have you considered active-infra-red beams
to protect circulation areas and corridors, or accross outward opening
stable doors?

Just food for thought

Comfort (www.comfort.org.uk) could easily do this.
However, it may be rather overspec'ed for what you're
after (and consequently rather expensive compared with
some other alarm systems). You could, for example, also
program it to auto-arm after some period of no triggering
of particular sensors too, and if you have a phone line
in the building, it also includes the phone line interface
in the base unit for remote access. System can handle 64
zones (maybe more now -- I might be out of date) in
increments of 8 zone add-ons at a time. Zones don't all
have to be wired back to one control box -- you can have
up to 4 control boxes which makes wiring large installations
easier.
