Proper way of removing 84-pin chip from socket?

Proper way of removing 84-pin chip from socket?

What is the correct way to remove an 84-pin chip from its' square
sockect? Is a special removal tool required? I stuck a metal probe
into one of the corners and started to pry the chip out but quit when I
felt that the force I was using might break the plastic socket.
