OT: Screens for Sand Blasting / Frosting Glass |
|
|
Anyone have pointers on how to make your own screens for sand blasting
/ frosting glass?
All my surfing yields lots of commercial level equipment at $2K+
I have hand cut my own by printing onto stick-on labels, then cutting
out with an X-Acto knife.
However I have 60 pieces to do this time, making hand-cutting a wee
bit of a chore.
Thanks!

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

There is some photo imagable stuff on the market. Google on "etching"
as well. Eg.

Why don't you make an honest-to-god template and use it over and over
again?

I don't know if vinyl would stand up to 60 runs, but you might try a
"computerized vinyl sign" shop. |

Jim, why not find your local sign maker and see if they can cut out some |
vinyl shapes for you?

Several people have suggested that. I'll check it out. My wife comes
up with this sort of customized-frosted-glass project often enough,
maybe I should invest in my own cutter, particularly now that I'm
officially a registered Girl Scout, I'm the cookie "mom" this year :-)

I believe resilient rubber matting is suitable for stencil matl - I've
seen it used on 'memorial' sandblasting - but I'm not sure you could
expect 60 applications from the same stencil.
Etching would probably produce a better-definitioned result, on
glass.

word of warning... I'd a work related blasting process some years ago and
noted some interesting stuff from the hazard/safety reports. There are a
number of grits used in the blasting processes, all have a generic dust
hazard but common builders sand should be avoided.
The dust, when lodged in the lung, is particularly carsonegenic. I remember
there are quite a number of resources online that will point you in the
right direction.
I hope this helps.
best regards,
Colin |

If you're worried about drugs, there isn't anything in the recipes
that's not recognizable as such!
Actually, you just use any recipe and substitute some of the chopped
nuts with some pot.
Cheers!
