How to test with Multitester? |
|
|
Hello all, I purchased a Multimeter and wish to learn how to test Diodes, Resistance, Capacitance, continuity and DC Voltage. I don't have any technical background in Electronics and only wish to know the above to fix Motherboards. Yes, the meter has a tiny instruction booklet but it does not work for me, can anyone refer me to any tutorials where i might get better instructions and hopefully some graphical illustrations which can help me understand how to use this meter to test the items mentioned above please? Thanks.

| a meter test everything and nothing why because it is an indicator only it tells if it is bad but will never tell you how good. said that a diode conducts current one way the line is the cathode [-] to test it must find the polarity of the probe usualy [-] black one way you will read low resistance the reversal of probe will display hi resistance. transistors can be checked the same way except you must know if PNP or NPN +--+ or -++- and the test must be done from base to the col. emitter. and finaly col. to emiter with base open. is your tester digtal display or analog? capacitor can be tested by using res scale to see a ramp but it only work for real big cap but if shorted it will tell you that. after all this there is the danger of acualy blowing up things by using it on any board without experience some ohmeters can ouput 9v which can damage comonents. may i should write a book about meters and what to expect from them. |

Testing |

I'm sorry. Before you can make any kind of measurement, you need to know what it is your are measuring.
You say you want to repair motherboards. A motherboard is a complicated piece of electronic gear. There are many different voltages and signals involved.
The first step to learning how to use the testing equipment you have aqiured is to learn the basics. Either go on line and search for available online courses or head out to your local library and get a book on learning basic electronics.
Good luck

| He has no concept of what is on a mother board obviously. And using a meter to check what? power supply voltages and that is it. Actualy he can do more damage then good if this guy has no idea what he is for it. |
