Hi everyone.

I have recently accepted a position as manufacturing trainer for a contract mfg company. They currently use Alpha ISIS microscopes.

I have done soldering and inspection using stereo scopes for years but always used Leica or something similar. I don't believe the ISIS scopes are suitable for inspection and soldering of SMT components. The facilitators picked them out several years ago when most of the soldering was thru-hole and say they love them but don't use them. The operators don't use them Now the company needs to purchase additional scopes and wants to stick with the same kind. I need something to back up my theory.

Has anyone used this scope before? Any thoughts on these scopes and whether or not they are suitable for our industry. We do work with fine pitch.

Thanks, any advice is appreciated.

Marg

I don't have used them to that extent but let me assure you that the company have a purchasing agent that is supposed to know all about it. The purchasing agent sometimes is cost consious and make mistakes. That remind me of screws yes screws at my place of work were purchased cheaply because of slight manufacture inperfection the philips heads has a slight crack on each Now here enter the U.S.A. goverment inspection and rejected the whole production as being defective because of it. Somebody had to physicaly replace some 30 pounds of screw cost $$$$ the 30 pounds cost was only $567.00 and the original savings in purchase $37.87. He doesn't work for us anymore. Your best bid is to make sure he knows this story.
