New project, can someone point me in the right direction? |

Hi All,
This is going to be my first electronics project and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I'm a software engineer by trade and have an idea for an embedded device. Right now, I'm still kind of searching where to start.
As my first project, I would like to build a PCB that has an ARM or RISC based microprocessor, I've chosen these because I'd like to run WinCE as my OS. I'd like to add an SDRAM chip as well as some kind of display. All of this will be powered by one 'AA' battery.
Things I know I need to get started:
1. PCB design software, I was thinking of using FreePCB.
2. The Microprocessor, not sure where to get this yet.
3. The SDRAM, again, need to find somewhere to buy it.
4. An LCD display, Data Image has some I like.
5. A 'AA' battery holder for the board.
6. A connector on the board for the LCD cable.
7. I need some way to get the OS/Application on the board.
My goal with my first project is to get a board running with WinCE and be able to output to the LCD display. Nothing fancy at first, just very simply, get everything wired correctly and working.
If anyone would be kind enough to help me get started, I would greatly appreciate any/all feedback. Also, does anyone know where I can obtain the SDRAM, Microprocessor and the other components I need?
Thanks for you time,
Craig
