I,m trying to operate a 24 volt ac (3amps) sprinkler valve with a 120v(500w max) residential type motion sensor. A doorbell type transformer was used to convert voltage and it actually worked for a few cycles. The motion sensor while still working is not putting out enough voltage to operate the system. Is there a better way to do this? What about a relay?

Thanks

To asume that the transformer is not putting out enough voltage is faulty. The voltage is there but your load of 3 amps kills the transformer output. You need 24 v and 3 amps output . you cannot substitute 24v 200ma for it needless to say you cannot substitute a 10 amps transformer if the voltage is 5 or 10v output..
Do you understand?
