I am using a MC7812 with a input voltage of @13.2VDC to power a Hard Drive(I am putting a MP3 player with IDE interface in an '80's ghettoblaster). The 5 volt rail seems okay as it is coming from a self contained power supply that came with the MP3 player. Unfortunately the 12V voltage isn't very steady. When I turn on the MP3 player or the power to the rest of the stereo the voltage drops. When I plug in the hard drive it starts beeping! The hard drive isn't fried. Any suggestions?
