I have a HP1740A Oscilloscope that does not display a signal. I took the cover off and I do not have a glow in the CRT. Before I spend money on a replacement CRT I would like to know if that is the problem. There are several wires that connect to the back, the top and the side of the CRT, but I do not have a service manual to tell me what they should read. Does anyone here know? I will be getting a service manual, but I wanted to order a CRT at the same time, if it is the problem.

| crt do go bad but not like that. no glow means no heater power if am to guess it is your power supply that is taking a vacation. look why there is no heater voltage or at least check the crt ohms for the heater. |

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. Last night I checked the voltage and I was getting 6.3 volts at the heater pins. So I than removed the connector on the crt and tested the heater pins and I have an open across them. So the heater has burned out and I now need to find a CRT for replacement.

| glad to be of help. now what those tubes if you can find them cost a fortune. there might be a place [search the internet] for crt repair. what they do is cut the crt neck and refurbish the crt not as costly as new one.good luck |
