I've just pulled a single-line LCD panel out of an old ITT telehphone,
and I need some help identifying it. Google couldn't help. It has this
logo on the pcb: http://members.shaw.ca/sir_manning/delete.jpg , the
text IBI.R6HB and DM053z and has 14 interface wires. From what I could
measure using a multimeter on the phone it seems to run off 5v. I know
this is probably a wild shot... but hopefully someone knows what
company that logo belongs to. Thanks a lot!

The logo is the Underwriters Lab logo and merely indicates that the part is
an Underwriters Registered part - doesn't help identify what the part is

I know this is not much help but you can try checking this page; list
of LCD manufacturers

I have found that most 14-wire lcd's use the same generic Hitachi
(HD44780?) controller. You can find the interface and data format
anywhere. Here is one page that has some info:
http://www.myke.com/lcd.htm

You may have to experiment with the setup bits. Some single-line lcds
are programmed as two line displays, and vice versa, depending on the
application, and you will have to find the "right" setting in order to
use the entire display. (It depends on how the panel is wired to the
chip.)

I have also found, however, that the power, ground, and lcd voltage
pins are often moved around on the connector, so if there is any way
you can determine which pin is ground and which is vcc (perhaps by
inspecting the phone it came out of) you can possibly save yourself the
heartbreak of destroying the display.

No help, The logo's just UL.

What about the chip(s) on it?

Got a manufacturer and part number?

Thanks for all the help! I'll check into everything that was suggested.
Unfortunately I can't make the chip on the LCD controller board - it is
just a piece of ceramic glued on.
