Making a battery pack for my ipod. |

i fond this thing on how to make a battery pack for my ipod..

he said that it would be a good idea to include a "power regulator
circuit board" and i have no idea how to make one...could u guys
explain how or point me to a website that shows how? thanks

thanks! y would the 8 1.5v provide more power..and 1.5v batteries are
AA right?...this is probably a stupid question, but..when the batteries
run out of power the voltage woud drop down to below the 8-30 volts
range...so having a below normal voltage when the batteries die wouldnt
cause any harm to the ipod, only having a higher than 30...right? |

Yes, for best results in ordinary circumstances all batteries that
are used in series should be of the same type.

1) yes, my estimate is 8 AA's would provide more energy than AA/C combo
2) the batteries shown by Drew Perry look like AA's. Of course, you can
use other 1.5 volt batts like size D and C. They will even provide more
energy but will be much bigger in size.
Also, I saw 8 cell "AA" battery holders at:

3) i don't think it will harm the iPod when the voltage drops to 8 volts or
lower.
yes, it can do harm to exceed 30 volts. |

so if i got the 8 cell holder all i would have to do is sodder (sp?) it
into the fire wire head then? and if i got two 4 cell holders (wich
ever takes up less space) would i just need to sodder the two cells
togeather and then sodder them to the firewire head? |

a regulator would also be undesireable - they only result in additional
losses.

AA (and AAA, and, C, D) are 1.5V

they's have to go down to 1V per cell to be at 8V, when they get below about
1.3V they're don't have much energy left in them.
if you're using rechargable AA cells these are typically 1.2-1.25 volts per
cell but are depleted at 1V per cell, so 8 would be the right number to use
there too.

yeah, I expect below 8V the sound quality decreases and probably somewhere
near 6 of 7 volts it just goes to sleep.

One way would be: http://salaginto.home.comcast.net/iPod_ps.jpg
This drawing shows two Radio Shack 4-cell holders; these holders
supposedly have color-coded lead (red and black). Red should
be (+) and black (-). Connect the holders to one another and to the
firewire connector RFS-6602 as shown.

This should work if your iPod works like Drew Perry's iPod.
