Screw the power company they are there to make money by you using their power. So far you got no help just static. to disconnect that kind of power you need a contactor with shoot trhru capability that is simple enough to inplement. You could use hi power hucky pack SCR to do that but the cost of the design and implemantation very costly. My suggestion is buy a fast contactor and sample the zero crossing of AC to connect - disconnet. and don't run the battery down disconnect after a certain voltage is reached even if there is no ac present.By zero crossing detect you eliminate some of the inrush current which frankly could sag the distribution lines.
