I m working in a student project(Voip).
i want to know all the details of how a-law/mu-law compression
techniques works??(at the bit level).
it will be better if you provide an example which will make the idea
clear.

waiting for replies.........

Thanks in advance

If you can handle a 200k PDF file, I can send you the handouts I prepared
for a multiplexing class a few years ago. It includes the A-law and u-law
curves, bit and byte values, etc. Although the material is just a
discussion aid, it does give good clues to what you seek.
