Which Fluke multimeter for 24/7 use?? |
|
|
Hi, I'm looking for a multimeter that will be
used 24/7 on DC and mA readings. Are there,
in your opinion/experience, any difference in
long-term durability between the Fluke 87
(series 80) and the Fluke 81438 multimeters?
Which is more durable, Fluke 87 or Fluke 81438
(sold only by Sears)?

If I had to pick I'd say the Fluke 87 for sure.
I have not used the 81438, but it looks to based on the ill-fated Fluke
19 and the new series 110 meters which are designed for a lower cost
market.
The Fluke 87 has proven reliability, it's been around for a long time
now.
In practice though, I doubt it would really matter. Other things like
battery life and being able to turn off the Auto-Power off mode might
be more important criteria.
